Staff Bios

April Lara
An El Paso native, April Lara holds a bachelors degree in Music Education from New Mexico State University. During her time at NMSU, she studied with Eastman graduate Dr. Fred Bugbee; a student of John Beck. At NMSU, she participated in multiple ensembles, including percussion ensemble, Wind Symphony, and the PRIDE of New Mexico Marching Band. April was center snare at Pioneer Drum and Bugle Corps, working under snareline instructor, Kenji Okubo. While pursuing her bachelors degree, April was the percussion instructor at Las Cruces High School from 2011 to 2014 winning outstanding drumline, best tenorline, best bassline, and best cymbals at the Duke City Drum Off. Then later taught at Centennial High School from 2014 to 2016, winning Honors percussion ensemble and Honors soloist at the Solo and Ensemble Festival. April is currently pursuing a Masters in Performance from Texas State University, while instructing the Bobcat Marching Band percussion section. April has an immense passion for teaching marching percussion and hopes to be a percussion director in Texas when she finishes her degree. She will be joining the Violet Crown staff for her second year as a snare instructor.
