Staff Bios

Whitney Stone
Whitney grew up in Sylva, North Carolina and attended Smoky Mountain High School, graduating in 2003. She danced for eight years with a studio in her younger years. She was a member of the band as a flutist and joined color guard her sophomore year. After graduating, she marched with the Carolina Crown Drum and Bugle Corps for five years, 2003-2007, and was a captain for the 2006/2007 season. In 2007, the Crown Color Guard placed 2nd at the DCI World Championships. Whitney also marched at WCU in the Pride of the Mountains Marching Band from 2003-2005, and was a co-captain of the guard in 2005. She competed with The Study IW winterguard in 2004-2005 and First Flight Independent Open in 2006. After that, she moved to Indianapolis, Indiana to immerse herself in the guard community and perform with the 2007 Pride of Cincinnati (World Champions) and 2008 (Silver Medalists). In 2009, she marched Zydeco World. She then taught Zydeco in 2011-2013. Other groups she has taught are: Carmel HS (BOA, ISSMA, IHSCGA and WGI Champs), Center Grove HS, Northview HS, Lawrence Central HS, Greenfield Central HS (state medalists and WGI Finalists), Decatur Central HS, New Palestine HS, Troopers Drum and Bugle Corps (2009 DCI finalists), Crossmen Drum and Bugle Corps (2012-present), Madison Scouts Drum and Bugle Corps (2014) as well as many other groups in Indiana, Ohio, and Texas. Whitney currently directs the guard program at Lake Travis HS in Austin, Texas and runs the dance program at ATX Independent Winterguard and Hutto HS. In 2009, she graduated from Paul Mitchell, The School with a degree in Cosmetology, and has designed hair and makeup looks for many of the above color guards as well as the 2013 WGI World Champions, Pride of Cincinnati. She now resides in Austin, TX with her fiancée, two pit bulls and two cats and just finished her 6th season with the Crossmen Drum and Bugle Corps. Whitney is very passionate about color guard, dance, hair, makeup and animals.
